Fentanyl is still a major problem throughout the country and right here in Texas.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, 2,192 Texans died from Fentanyl poisoning in 2022. That is 6 Texans every day!
Drug Free Comfort, The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Comfort Independent School District, Comfort Area Foundation, and the Hill Country Family Services have joined together to sponsor a Community Awareness Program, “One Pill Can Kill.” The program will feature former DEA Special Agent Rick Goodrich. Rick has had extensive experience with drug trafficking in Central Texas. He is currently the Chief of Safety and Security for Boerne ISD.
Rick will discuss the dangers of Fentanyl, how it is made, distributed, sold, and how to avoid fake pills and other products which may be laced with fentanyl or other dangerous drugs.
The Community Awareness Program will take place on January 31st at the Lobby Coffee Shop in Comfort starting at 6 :00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided. Following the one-hour program, attendees will be offered an optional free 15-minute Naloxone training program provided by the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA). Naloxone is used to treat people experiencing a fentanyl overdose and can save lives. Free Naloxone kits will also be provided to those who attend the training program. Another Naloxone training program will be offered at a later date to be announced.
Let’s increase our community awareness and help prevent the tragic overdose deaths occurring throughout our country and right here in Texas.
